Acts 1

(6-7) Then they gathered around and asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth
The Jews had a grand image of the Messiah as a powerful figure who would conquer Israel adversaries thus freeing the nation. When we call upon God, we don't always receive an answer that'll be immediate or satisfying. Jesus would provide them with something far more valuable than political/social freedom.

(8) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
The Holy Spirit provides courage, boldness, confidence, insight, ability, and authority. God would use these gifts to preach the good news across the nations starting from Jerusalem.
