Church culture usually encourages to give 10% of our income to the church, the bare minimum. For many including myself, this can sometimes seem bothersome and do it out of obligation rather than genuine concern for church finances or missions. However these poverty stricken community sacrificed their materialistic comforts because they were more concerned with making God’s glory known to others. This is the type of attitude we need when offering tithes.
(12) For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.
Although we might want to contribute to the church, we should be doing in a responsible manner in which we can donate while maintaining our basic needs met. We shouldn’t cripple our families.
