2 Corinthians 11

(3-4) But i am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough
If we believe that the Biblical writings were inspired by the holy spirit then we must set it as our highest authority. We must have a desperate alert for accurate doctrine. False doctrine is attractive because it suits our human morals and limited understanding. This can give us a false perception of who God is and what he demands of us. Because we don't submit our understanding to God, we now have people who over empathise on the prosperity gospel while other churches have even accepted same sex marriage as a sacred union.

(14-15) And no wonder, for satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. their end will be what their actions deserve.
Since the early church there have always been corrupt or misguided preachers. Having a proper understanding of the gospel is desperately important because so we can recognise these people.

(23-29)
Anyone who studies the gospel accurately are aware that there is no such thing as a lukewarm/comfortable christian, there'll always be struggle. Paul is aware of this more than most people and gives himself the credentials his adversaries could not.
