1 John 5

13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 
There is some comfort knowing that I don't need to work for eternal life. It's been given to me from God and it is guaranteed in scripture. This doesn't matter if i'm going through a spiritually dry season, as long as my conscious declares that i'm actively pursuing him every day and verify it against scripture I am saved.
